Manchester City defender Nicolas Otamendi scored a header in the club’s 5-0 rout of Crystal Palace in the final game of the season.
While the game was already won, the goal is significant as it is the 400th goal for players from South American giant Argentina.
Since his move to the Etihad, the goal is Otamendi’s second. His teammate Sergio Aguero leads the pack with 120 goals in the top flight. He arrived from Atletico Madrid but has built a reputation for himself as one of the best strikers of all times.
Carlos Tevez follows with 84 goals following his time at Manchester United and Manchester City. He exited in 2013 for Juventus but his record stands out. In third place is former Chelsea star HernanCrespo with a 20-goal haul.
Leicester City’s Leonardo Ulloa has 18, Former Liverpool star Maxi Rodiguez has 15, Wigan star Franco Di Danto has 14, a record he shares with West Ham United playmaker Manuel Lanzini. Outgoing City star Pablo Zabaleta has nine goals as with Mauro Zarate.
Over 40 Argentine stars have scored in the Premier League but Otamendi’s is the 400th goal. The star has a question mark over his future though as skipper Vincent Kompany was confirmed as a player for the forthcoming season.
Coach Pep Guadiola is set to add two centre backs which would see him vacate his role in the team.
AymericLaporte, Virgil van Dijk and Leonardo Bonucci are targets. John Stones and AlekzKolarov are poised to remain so Otamendi’s options are slimmer. Others Jason Denayer and EliaquimMangala are set to be offloaded this summer as the Catalan boss continues with the team overhaul.
