Ian Wright fears Emiliano Martinez could leave Arsenal

Arsenal legend Ian Wright fears Emiliano Martinez could head for the exit door on the back of his impressive showing in goal for the Gunners. The Argentine was called into action in the Premier League after the recent injury for Bernd Leno and he has caught the eye with a number of top-notch displays between the sticks.

His decision-making has already earned him plaudits from the club’s faithful, but he could return to the bench, once Leno recovers from his injury. Speaking on BBC 5 Radio Live, Wright said that he had no idea over the potential of Martinez, who has spent a decade with the Gunners without truly getting his chance.<!--more-->
<a href="https://www.franco-di-santo.com/san-lorenzo-sign-former-chelsea-striker-... added that the 27-year-old may not be content with the deputy</a> role to Leno next term and fears that the Argentine may pursue a fresh challenge this summer, he told: “I didn’t realise how good he was because I didn’t see enough of him. I saw him in some cup games but he’s commanding, he makes great saves, he’s good on the ground, he's got everything for a No.2. The thing that frightens me now with him is that when Bernd Leno does come back and he is fit, why would he want to continue as a No.2 when he’s played to this level being a No.1? He will surely want to go and be a No 1 now.”

However, the club are now looking at the prospect</a> of extending his contract which expires in June 2022. The Argentine recently featured for the Gunners in the FA Cup final where they came from behind to beat Chelsea by a 2-1 score. The north London side bagged their 14th FA Cup crown in the process. As a result, they will contest the Community Shield against Liverpool later this month.
