San Lorenzo have announced that they have managed to sign Franco di Santo, who is known for his time with the likes of Chelsea, Werder Bremen, and many top clubs across Europe. However, this will be the first time the Argentine striker gets to experience football in his home country. After coming through the ranks atAudax Italiano,di Santo was signed by Chelsea when he was still a teenager. Immediately after joining the West London outfit, he was loaned out to different clubs like Blackburn where he had decent impact. However, there was no sustained return on goals from the Argentine and this led to his permanent move away from Chelsea in 2010.
From there,di Santo has been on a path of travel is, as he has played for the likes of Werder Bremen, Schalke, and Rayo Vallecano. Towards the last few years, however, his spell with different clubs has been very short lived, as he has not been able to last more than one or two years. At 31 years of age, he has now returned to South American football and Atletico Mineiro the punt on him in 2019. He was reasonably successful at the Brazilian club after scoring three goals in 20 games. However, he has been released and San Lorenzo have signed him on a free transfer.
“I arrived at a great club. I am happy, excited, and wanting to score a lot of goals together,” said di Santo. It is incredible that he has just been able to feature in the Argentine game at the age of 31 despite having been born in the country. The striker will be hoping to hack to his two FA Cup medals that he picked up during his time with English football. Franco di Santo has had three appearances for the Argentine national team.
