Schalke O4 again let their supporters down by failing to get a point in Ingolstadt. Instead, they were well-beaten by Ingolstadt 3-0 thus damaging their hopes of getting a Champions League qualification spot.
The Schalke’s manager Andre Breitenreiter made some changes to the team that beat Borussia Mönchengladbach in the previous game. Caicara returned into the team after suspension and Aogo as well was preferred to Sead Kolasinac. Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting also made his return to the team after having successfully recovered from an injury.
Both teams were fired up for this game and created chances as from the start. It was Schalke who was the most dangerous team. They attacked with purpose and created the most dangerous chances but was let down by a lack of accuracy or poor decision-making in the final third.
Franco Di Santo got a fantastic opportunity in the 23rd minute, but instead, he missed the target with only the keeper to beat. Schalke will be punished for this missed opportunity with Ingolstadt taking the lead just after.
The referee will judge that Dario Lezcano was fouled in the box and allowed a penalty for Ingolstadt. Moritz Hartmann did not miss from the spot and gave Ingolstadt the lead completely against the run of play. This goal negatively affected Schalke 04 who until this time was the better team on the pitch.
It was Ingolstadt that doubled the lead just before half-time to dealt a decisive blow to Schalke. Whilst the odds of Schalke staging a comeback slowly moved further and further out on betting website StanJames, fans were left with a bitter taste in their mouths.
With a mountain left to climb in the second half, Franco Di Santo’s teammates came back with greater intent after the break. Unfortunately, they struggled to create any decisive goal scoring opportunities and instead it is Ingolstadt that capitalize again on a defensive mistake to score another goal.
