Guardiola hails legendary Aguero after winning goal against Burnley

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has once more described Sergio Aguero as a legend after the Argentine scoring the only goal during the recent Premier League meeting against Burnley. The Citizens faced a must-win situation against the Clarets to return to the top of the standings and they managed to do so with Aguero coming up with the winner which was decided through the Goal Decision System.

Speaking after the game, Guardiola praised the qualities of the Argentina international, who has come up with important goals during the course of his Citizens career. He added that he has been pleased with the reaction from the team since their Champions League quarter-final exit at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur.

He said: “He is a legend. He does that all the time, he scores important goals all the time, he is an incredible player. This was so, so important, it is not easy, especially after our defeat against Tottenham [in the Champions League]. Our reaction has been outstanding, overwhelming, without Kevin De Bruyne, without Fernandinho and come here and play the way we played.”

At present, the Citizens have a slender one-point advantage over Liverpool at the top of the table and they are assured of the Premier League crown, provided they win the remaining two league games. However, the same does not remain straightforward with Leicester City and Brighton & Hove Albion having their own expectations at both ends of the table, and they would need to produce their best showing to overcome the pair.

Elsewhere, Manchester City have the opportunity of becoming the first-ever English club to secure a domestic treble. The Citizens have already secured the League Cup earlier in the year, and silverware through the Premier League and FA Cup final against Watford would allow them to celebrate an unprecedented feat.
