Franco di Santo made Werder Bremen to win

A solitary goal from Franco di Santo was enough for Werder Bremen to enter into the top of the table with a victory over Freiberg. Werder Bremen did not win in the last two matches and it was threatening to dislodge them from the top 10 positions.

They have recovered and returned to winning ways with a narrow 1-0 win overFreiberg. Former Chelsea striker Franco di Santo, who has been the main goal source for the German outfit in the last 12 months, once again continued his impressive form by finding the back of the net in the 36th minute.

This was the 12th league goal of the season for the Argentine, who is now one of the top scorers in the division. He is only behind the likes of Arjen Robben and Meier in terms of their goal tally this season. The opposition had a number of opportunities to get back into the match with an equaliser. This did not arrive and Werder Bremen held on for a victory that moves them into eighth place in the table. The club is still retain the glimmer of hope when it comes to finishing in the European qualification positions. Augsburg in the sixth place occupy the final Europa League qualification spot.

The victory helps Werder Bremen overcome two successive defeats. "Arminia deserved to win. We can't blame the weather, pitch or referee. We didn't start the game badly but we just didn't take our chances while we were on top.Bielefeld came more into the game afterwards and were bold in attack. In the end, we deserved to lose because everything was missing from our performance: the correct attitude, concentration and luck. The pitch is no excuse as both teams had to deal with it. I'm disappointed that we thought that it was a foregone conclusion," said coach Viktor Skripnik after last week’s defeat againstArminia Bielefeld.
