Former Chelsea striker Franco di Santo made it to the provisional squad for the Argentina national team a few years ago.
It looked like the Argentine striker was thriving on the back of regular first-team football, which he did not get at Chelsea. After a number of moves in the last few years, he has ended up at Schalke. The German outfit have spent around € 6 million in order to secure his signature from the clutches of Werder Bremen. This appears to be a bad move on the part of Schalke and manager Andre Breitenreiter.
After witnessing just one solitary goal from the striker in 19 appearances, it appears thatBreitenreiter is fed up with the 26-year-old. So much so that transfer rumours surrounding the player has already begun. Even though the January transfer window has just closed, it seems that Schalke will come to a mutual agreement with Di Santo for the release of player. The future of the player will be thrown into doubt at this age. He may return to South American football with several Argentine clubs open to his return, while there is also the possibility of spending the next few seasons in the Middle East or the Chinese leagues where there is a lot of money to be made.
The growing rumours about Di Santo come as the striker has not been able to complete 90 minutes of football in almost 2 months. He has been able to get the occasional few minutes as a substitute, but this is of no benefit to the club or the player. Schalke have slowly been thriving on the goals from former Ajax forward Huntelaar. The 32-year-old has six goals in the same 19 appearances as Di Santo, who has just one to his name in more than six months.
