Jonathas managed to score on his debut for Hannover, as they secured a 1-0 win over Schalke.
After having managed an impressive victory in the opening match, Schalke were poor in this game. They did not create much opportunities, and striker Franco di Santo only had a penalty shout to his name. Schalke were coming into the game on the back of a victory over RB Leipzig.
It was a crucial victory for the team, as it meant getting one over the 2016-17 runners up. Interestingly, Schalke were able to get the better of RB Leipzig by beating them at their own game – counter-attacks. Hannover, meanwhile, were able to achieve a win over Mainz.
Hannover came into the game with the likes of Marvin Bakalorz and SalifSané coming into the starting lineup. Schalke were unchanged from the opening match of the season. Even though Schalke did make the positive start in the game, Hannover came up with the best chances of the match. Schalke’s best opportunity in the game fell to Amine Harit, who is one of the new recruits at the club. Franco di Santo was unable to find the goal with his attempts.
Schalke were able to create multiple opportunities in the set pieces but they were unable to convert those opportunities into goals. Finally, the away defeat is a major blow to the club, as they have to head into the international break pondering over the possibility of coming back in a strong way.
Schalke, though, do have a home match against Stuttgart coming up in the next game. The home form for the club will be crucial this season. After having witnessed a poor performance from his forwards in the game, Schalke manager Tedesco is likely to unleash the whip for the next match against Stuttgart.
