Franco di Santo considered as a flop at Schalke 04 and may be allowed to leave in the summer
When Schalke 04 signed Franco di Santo from Werder Bremen in 2015, they were hoping that they could get a prolific striker that will help them compete at the top of the Bundesliga. Indeed, the Argentina striker was quite prolific with Werder where he managed to score 14 goals in 27 appearances. This has prompted the Schalke 04 management to trigger his release clause which amounted to €6 million.
Unfortunately, Franco di Santo could not replicate the same form shown at Werder Bremen and only managed 2 goals in 21 appearances in the Bundesliga. He was far from being the prolific striker that Schalke 04 was looking in order to mount a serious push for the European places. What has been even worst is that the Argentinian striker has not shown any form of commitment towards the team. There is news that he was always late for training and did not show any determination whether it is in training or during official matches. This has raised questions whether Franco di Santo was willing to play in Germany or not.
Franco di Santo was not being selected for Schalke 04 matches towards the end of the season since he did not show any willingness to play for the team. There is high possibility that Franco di Santo might be allowed to leave during the summer as Schalke 04 look to free out some cash in order to build a team that can challenge for the title.
Franco di Santo started his career in Europe when he signed for Chelsea in 2008. He spent 2 years at Stamford Bridge before being loaned out to Blackburn Rovers. However, he will fail to establish himself with Chelsea and will then be sold to Wigan Athletic before going to Werder Bremen.
